Bar Charts
Bar chart comparison and calculation questions
Bar charts use separated bars to compare amounts for named categories or discrete time periods. In aptitude exams, a chart may show employees, sales, scores, traffic, revenue or rates. Read the title, axis labels, scale and unit before calculating, then use the exact bar values unless the question asks for an estimate. For grouped or stacked bars, first decide whether a bar is a complete total or only one component of that total.

Key concepts
Read the chart metadata first
Start with the title, category labels, axis labels, scale intervals and unit. A bar marked 40 might mean 40 people, 40 thousand units or ₹40 lakhs. If the vertical axis advances by 20, estimate an intermediate bar against that interval rather than treating each gridline as one unit. Write down the values needed for the question before calculating.
